E.T.

Well after a week of good, and sometimes heated, discussion about all sorts of topics, I thought I’d end the week with a nice non-confrontational blog. Who needs stress on Friday after all.

So. Aliens. I don’t know about you, but I used to wonder if there were aliens out there. With all the billions of stars in the universe, ours surely can’t be the only star with a habitable planet?

And if there were aliens out there, does that mean that God created them too?

Is there a Church stance on the possibility of life out there? On aliens? I had a look in the Catechism under “aliens”, “extraterrestrials”, and “Cantabrians” but couldn’t find anything.

On a different note, I like to think sometimes of where I am in life. My current situation, all the people I know, etc. And then I think of all the choices that all these people would have taken throughout their lives so that we would all be at this place in time and for all of us to be in each others lives. Deep stuff.

Coincidence? Good luck? Do these things exist? I think these are other ways of saying God’s will is being done.

Anyway, have a good weekend everyone!

    Beard,

I hear what you’re saying. I too have searched through ample Church documentation looking for mention or condemnation of Cantabrians.

Alas, I’m still looking – but I’m certain it’s there. We can’t have such a mutant bunch of people with no-one having mentioned something at sometime.

I don’ think they’re aliens though – more likely its some sort of un-natural spawning.

I personally don’t think that there are any other aliens out there. I think God’s Revelation gives us the truth that the world was made for us. “We are the crown of creation,” as St Iraneous says.

God’s will and Providence, chance, and human choice….all bound together…certainly a mystery how these things come together…I think that those who pray are “protected” and God guides their lives in a mysterious way…

    Down with the Cantabs!

Interesting thought for a Friday there Beardy-boy. I personally have always felt that there must be other life out there somewhere. I mean, I know enough Cantabrians to confirm that (semi) intelligent life can grow in the strangest places. :)

I more think that since God made the heavens and all that is in them, and there is nothing that I have seen from Him that says otherwise, that there could very well be other life out there.  Also depends on your definition of “life” I suppose.

Will we ever know for sure, while on this side of Heaven? Hmmmm….

For those interested, tonight in Aotearoa Square (that’s in Auckland for you other rednecks :) ) we’re gathering to burn some effigies of Andrew Merhtens, Richie MaCaw, and Todd Blackadder, who have insulted the rest of NZ by wearing red and black.

    This obviously is an outrage!

After the burning, we’ll set of on a pillaging and bombing rampage… seeking out all Cantabs who won’t renounce their Cantanbrian disease and convert to the true City, O Auckland the Great!

    :D

I don’t deny the world wasn’t made for us… but was the universe? All those other stars and planets out there can’t be lifeless can they?

Beardy, maybe not lifeless, but I think they don’t have any rational/spiritual creatures…namely humans…

I suppose there could be bacteria, or ameba, or other such lifeforms? Not sure…

I just have four words to add to this post, and for people who don’t follow rugby, here you are: http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/0,2106,3803608a10295,00.html

The four words? North Harbour, Ranfurly Shield!!

Maybe not humans… but if there were little green men with their own advanced civilisation, what would this mean for us?

The short of it is that we just don’t know, do we.

Maybe they didn’t stray from their Garden of Eden? Maybe they never ate from the Tree? Maybe they, therefore, are totally content where they are and are not interested in the slightest at looking to the stars in order to answer a deep, spiritual longing for understanding of the bigger picture – a malady which we all suffer from.

    Or maybe not. :)
