As regulars to the blog will have seen, we’ve upgraded the back-end of Being Frank and we’re trialling some new features that are now available.  This page is where we plan to update you on the new features as they’re added.

Avatars

You’ll see that you now have a small icon appearing beside your name when you comment on a post.  This is called a Gravatar.  To change it to a custom image, create an account at Gravatar.com with the same email address as your alias on Being Frank.  Then, automatically, the image you set as your avatar will appear on our site.

Edit comments

You will be able to edit your comments for a period after you post them in order to correct spelling mistakes and the like.  To edit your comment, simply click the Edit link beside the title of the comment you want to edit.  If there is no link, you’re either on a different computer to where you first wrote the comment, or you are outside the timeframe allowed for editing comments

Quicktags

We’ve added a feature to the comments section that allows you to use “quick tags”.  These tags allow you to mark-up your comment with bold text, italics, underlines, block quotes and links.  There’s also a button that shows a dialog box of smileys or emoticons for you to use to help express yourself.

Link style

One complaint has been that hyperlinks aren’t obvious enough in the current site style. So we’ve made them force underline – let us know if that’s better for you.

Related comments

You’ll now see related comment links appearing in the detail of posts. We’re trialling this out to see if we can cross-promote some of the more than 1,000 posts in the Being Frank archives. Enjoy! :)

Promotion and buttons

We’ve had a few people ask about the best way to promote Being Frank to others. So, we’ve added a couple of badges with instructions on the FAQ page. We’ve also added icon buttons for the major social sharing sites (e.g. Digg, Reddit etc.) under the post content and in the right hand pane.

The code for the buttons is also below:

We’ll continue to update this page as new features come to light.  If you have any questions or comments, please leave them in the field below.

God bless,
