    Interesting profiles.

I am of the firm belief that, irrespective of who has the “goods” to be pope, and despite all the posturing and conjecture of who may be pope, it is all a bit irrelevent. The Holy Spirit will select a pope that has the qualities He is looking for.

But I guess its fun conjecturing, and besides, its all good for the news media, and sells papers

To be honest I don’t think that what the Holy Spirit/Church guarantees to us is that it will micromanage the selection of a fantastic Pope. It just guarantees us that they will not be a complete disaster (formal heretic). I think Pope Benedict said something along these lines:

I would not say so, in the sense that the Holy Spirit picks out the Pope. … I would say that the Spirit does not exactly take control of the affair, but rather like a good educator, as it were, leaves us much space, much freedom, without entirely abandoning us. Thus the Spirit’s role should be understood in a much more elastic sense, not that he dictates the candidate for whom one must vote. Probably the only assurance he offers is that the thing cannot be totally ruined.

Personally I would like one of the dozen or so Cardinals that have recently offered a Trad Latin Mass, or someone with enough theological and philosophical weight to keep us going. But from the sounds of some reports we might also need a strong administrator. Who ever it is, let them be holy!
